A
Little Bit of Sugar Shack History...
The Sugar
Shack was actually born 40 years ago when a young high school boy, who was a
member of the Future Farmers of America, was instructed by his teacher to do a
project. The project he selected was making maple syrup. He and a
friend first made syrup in a garage. After high school, he bought his
friend's half of the equipment and continued on his own in an old shed located
in the middle of his parent's corn field that was barely large enough for the
evaporator.
The next
location was the Cow Palace, an old barn-type structure that had a huge
fireplace. The Cow Palace was rented each season to make maple syrup and
to offer an all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast to local families and
tourists. They came to tour the Sugar Shack and to sit at the picnic
tables in front of the fireplace and enjoy their breakfast served with pure
maple syrup.
Twenty-three
years after graduating from high school, getting married, going to college,
starting a family, and having a career as a full-time electrician, the decision
was made in 1985 to buy property and build a sugar shack, gift shop
and
function
hall that would soon thrive, primarily through the efforts of family and
friends. And now each year there are motorcoach tours, school tours,
weddings and outings held at the Sugar Shack. The Sugar Shack is
well-known for its quality maple syrup and maple products, in addition to down
home country cooking catering.
